E Dear friends, Those who have lost a loved one usually do not care to take part in social activities. ■ However, a week or so after ■ the funeral, most people try to 1 participate in family activities, 1 guided by one's own feelings on 1 iwhat "he or she would have wanted". The bereaved's own state of mind affects those around him and aids or detracts from their ability to meet life's daily needs. i Respectfully, M Ms: ^Ototwitou Mis. W.T. Hyatt My devotional, this week, looks at the outward man, the in wan! man, things which are temporal and things eternal. 1% found in n Corinth in 4, verses 16-11. As I watch my father, suffering with cancer, my heart aches, wanting to try to ease the pain, wanting to make things better for him, but it seems I’m helpless, la one of these times God gave me these verses' and He surely knows what to send and when. “Though the ‘outward man’ perish the inward man is renewed day by day.” I see him suffering and all the tubes and needles here and there, and yet the “toward man” of daddy is being renewed every day. Paul says this “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen, for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” What a comfort to me and to all those who see their loved ones suffering! Here is a small poem found in a book. Ill entitled, “After the Dark ness.” After the darimeas, the daylight shines through, After the showers, the rainbows’ in view. After life’s heartaches, there comes from above the peach and the comfort, of God's healing lore! Card Of Thanks Hie family of Lettie Ann Biyson wishes to expess our deepest graditude to the many friends and neighbors who extended their kindness and sympat hy during the illness and death of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Great great-grandmother. Hie beautiful floral designs, telephone calls, food, visits and prayers were very comforting. Our deepest appreciation to Dr. Aldis, Dr. Adams and Dr. Fisher and the staff of second floor of C.J. Harris Hos pital who stood by so faithfully. Our special thanks to the Whittier Church of God, Revs. G.H. Goins, the Rev. L.W. Wroley and the REV. Alfred Pitts, the pallbear ers and Bill Moody FUneral Home of Bryson City. Thanks also to Mr. and Mis. Larry Barker and Mrs. Brenda Coggins for singing her favorite songs. Rom the bottom of our hearts we thank each one of you and may God bless you richly always. This was an 81.7 percent increase over the $56.8 million, or $.91 million a common share, earned in the same period of 1983. “Our Hist quarter re flected a major upturn in traffic and revenues after a tough year in 1983," Noithfotk Southern’s chair man and chief executive officer, Robert B. Claytor, said. ‘The railraod bus iness lagged the general economy on the way down, and it certainly has lagged it on the way back, but business was up sharply in the first quarter. 1 is par ticularly noteworthy that this increase was across the board, with revenues from both coal and general merchandise traffic up by more than 20 percent.” Announcing: The ben in • in and 2nd Home Mortgages • Home Improvement Loans • Top-Paying Savings Plans insured by FSLIC Where?
